Accident – Death – Obituary News :

MINERAL SPRINGS, N.C. — A tragic incident unfolded in the small town of Mineral Springs, North Carolina, as a man allegedly killed a family member and severely injured his wife on Tuesday evening, according to deputies.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office revealed that 62-year-old Jeffery Lemmonds is facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder following a dispute that escalated into a shooting.

Authorities were alerted to the scene on Forest Green Drive late Tuesday, where they discovered a man who had been shot. Despite efforts to save him, the victim, identified as 29-year-old Justin Starnes, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the home.

Further search of the residence led deputies to Lemmonds’ wife, who was found with a severe head injury. While it remains unclear if she was also shot, the sheriff’s office confirmed that “multiple shots” were fired during the incident.

Lemmonds fled the scene before law enforcement arrived but was later apprehended at a residence in Monroe. He is currently being held without bond.

Sheriff Eddie Cathey expressed shock at the incident, stating that the situation escalated unnecessarily when the suspect resorted to reckless gunfire in an attempt to harm his own family members.
