In a dramatic turn of events, a man wielding two machetes was shot dead by sheriff’s deputies in Lancaster, California. The incident, which took place at a grocery store, was captured on body camera video released by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deadly Confrontation Unfolds

The video shows deputies repeatedly warning the man to drop the bladed weapons as he stands outside the store. Despite using foam projectiles and tasers, the deputies were unable to subdue the man due to his thick jacket protecting him from the non-lethal devices.

As the situation escalated, the man declared “You’re starting to piss me off” and charged at the deputies with a machete raised above his head. The deputies were left with no choice but to open fire, resulting in the man, identified as Jonathan Scott Foster, being pronounced dead at a hospital.

Earlier Attack at Convenience Store

Prior to the deadly confrontation, the man had attacked a convenience store clerk with a machete, causing injuries that required hospital treatment. Deputies had been alerted to the incident and were searching for the man when they received a call about a man with a machete at the grocery store.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies attempted to coax the man into dropping his weapon, but he refused. The situation escalated when the man entered the store, leading to the use of lethal force.

Investigation Underway

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has stated that the incident will undergo standard reviews by the District Attorney’s office and the department’s Internal Affairs unit. The goal is to determine whether the deputies’ use of force was within the law.
