Accident – Death – Obituary News :

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — A San Angelo man was recently sentenced for a tragic incident that occurred almost four years ago. Brian Castillo, a resident of San Angelo, was convicted of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle after hitting and killing a pedestrian while driving under the influence.

The Scene of the Incident

The heartbreaking incident took place on March 14, 2020, in the 1200 Block of North Oakes Street in San Angelo. San Angelo police officers responded to a fatal accident and found Castillo, the driver of a black Dodge sedan, at the scene along with a witness and the victim, Johnell Hornsby.

The Tragic Accident

According to an affidavit, Castillo was driving northbound on the road when he veered into the southbound lanes, striking a power pole and ultimately hitting Hornsby. Tragically, Hornsby succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.

The Investigation

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers noticed that Castillo exhibited signs of intoxication. A witness at the scene reported that Castillo initially claimed to be a passenger in the vehicle. However, he later admitted to being the driver, with Hornsby as the passenger.

Legal Ramifications

Castillo’s intoxication level was deemed too high for him to undergo a standard field sobriety test or be interviewed by investigators. Consequently, he was taken into custody and subsequently sentenced to eight years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutions Division for the serious offence of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle.
