Tragic Shooting Incident in Dayton, Ohio
In a heartbreaking turn of events, a young girl named Heaven Washington lost her life in a senseless act of violence in Dayton, Ohio on November 17, 2023. The 15-year-old was tragically shot and killed by a man identified as Moreland, who is now facing charges for her murder.
The incident took place in the area of Turner Road and Philadelphia Avenue, where Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a shooting. Washington, who was under the temporary custody of Montgomery County Children Services, was in a car with a group home staff member when Moreland’s vehicle pulled up alongside them and opened fire.
Washington was rushed to Miami Valley Hospital by private vehicle, but sadly succumbed to her injuries. The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that the shooting stemmed from an argument Moreland had with another individual, leading to this tragic and unnecessary loss of life.
Prosecutor Calls for Justice
Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. condemned Moreland’s actions, stating, “This defendant tragically killed a completely innocent 15-year-old girl over an argument that the defendant had with another man. To make matters worse, he tried to cover up what he did. He deserves to spend the rest of his life locked up and behind bars where he won’t be able to harm others ever again.”
Moreland is currently being held on $1 million cash bail in the Montgomery County Jail as the investigation into the incident continues. The community mourns the loss of Heaven Washington and seeks justice for her untimely death.
