Man Arrested in Peoria, Illinois, Faces Charges After Incident at Walmart in West Burlington

A man from Peoria, Illinois, found himself in hot water after he was apprehended by the West Burlington Police Department on Wednesday. The arrest was made on a warrant out of Bettendorf, according to a recent news release.

Incident at Walmart

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a theft in progress at Walmart, located at 324 W. Agency Road in West Burlington. Upon arrival, the suspect attempted to flee from the responding patrol officer. Despite multiple orders to stop, the suspect continued to evade capture, leading to a foot pursuit.

Arrest and Discovery

After a tense chase, the suspect was finally apprehended. He was identified as Deyvon Mangwell King, who was not only wanted in Bettendorf but was also found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, cocaine, and marijuana at the time of his arrest.

Following his arrest, King was taken to the Des Moines County Jail to await further legal proceedings.

Legal Ramifications

The arrest warrants out of Bettendorf against King included charges of failure to appear for operating while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance. Additionally, King now faces new charges related to the incident at Walmart, including possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of marijuana and cocaine, interference with official acts, and fifth-degree theft.

The collaborative efforts of the West Burlington Police Department, the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Taskforce, and the Burlington Police Department were instrumental in bringing King to justice.
