Ravalli County Tragedy: Utah Skier Dies in Montana Avalanche

RAVALLI COUNTY, Montana, March 13, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A tragic incident unfolded at the Lost Trail Ski area in Montana, claiming the life of a Utah man on Tuesday.

The Avalanche

Reports from the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office reveal that a group of five skiers from Utah were enjoying the slopes when disaster struck in the form of an avalanche. The 64-year-old male skier, identified as Park City resident David Macfarlane, was swept away by the powerful force of nature.

Rescue Efforts

Despite the valiant efforts of his companions who located him and administered first aid, Macfarlane succumbed to his injuries before help could arrive. The Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office, Ravalli County Search and Rescue, and Two Bear Air from Flathead County responded swiftly to the scene.

Two Bear Air, in collaboration with Ravalli County Search and Rescue, executed a daring helicopter rescue mission to retrieve the victim. Tragically, Macfarlane had already passed away due to the severity of his injuries from the avalanche.
