Austin Chef Killed in Downtown Hit-and-Run Incident

An Austin chef, known for his work at various local restaurants, tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident early Tuesday morning. Cody Shelton, 26, was identified as the victim of the incident, which took place at the intersection of East Seventh and Red River streets in downtown Austin.

The Incident

According to police reports, Shelton was struck by a vehicle driven by Tyrone Thompson, 23, at approximately 1:10 a.m. Shelton succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while another pedestrian was critically injured and taken to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment.

The Suspect

Thompson fled the scene in his dark gray Mazda following the collision, continuing east on East Seventh Street. He was later arrested and is facing charges, including accident involving death. Thompson is currently held at the Travis County jail on a bail of $143,000.
