The Catastrophic Incident in Multan

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, tragedy struck the vibrant city of Multan as a three-storey house in the Haram Gate area collapsed due to a devastating gas cylinder blast during Sehr time. The incident, which took place at around 3:30am in Mohalla Jawadian, resulted in the loss of nine lives and left two individuals critically injured.

The Heartbreaking Scene

As Musarat Bibi, the wife of Naseebur Rehman, was preparing Sehri on the top floor of her family home, the gas cylinder suddenly exploded with a deafening bang. The force of the blast caused the roof of the house to cave in, trapping all seven family members who were asleep in the adjacent single-storey house under the debris.

The Tragic Loss

The victims of this horrific incident included Naseebur Rehman, his son Abbdullah, and seven members of another family, namely Ameer Ali, Komal, Danish, Waseem, Bakhtawar Ameen, Faheem Abbas, and his wife Sanoobar. The entire community was left in shock and grief at the sudden and senseless loss of so many lives.

The Rapid Response

Upon receiving the distress call, Rescue 1122 and the district administration swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate a rescue operation. Despite their best efforts, the outcome was devastating, with nine individuals losing their lives and two others being rushed to Nishtar Hospital in critical condition.

An Inquiry and Call to Action

In the aftermath of this tragedy, Multan Deputy Commissioner Rizwan Qadeer ordered an immediate inquiry into the building collapse. The investigation, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Saif, aims to determine the cause of the mishap and assess the extent of the losses incurred.

Furthermore, the district administration plans to conduct physical inspections of other potentially dangerous buildings in the city to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Multan, with its rich history spanning over 5,000 years, is home to numerous old structures that require careful monitoring and maintenance.

Commissioner Maryam Khan, Regional Police Officer Sohail Chaudhry, and City Police Officer Sadiq Ali Dogar visited the site to express their condolences and support to the affected families. The authorities have vowed to take concrete measures to ensure the safety of residents living in dilapidated buildings and prevent such tragedies from repeating.
