Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The small community of Parakies Village in the North West District of Guyana was shaken by a devastating incident recently, as 93-year-old Alexander Josephine lost his life in a tragic wildfire. The elderly man, known for his love of farming, suffered severe burn injuries while tending to his land, ultimately succumbing to his wounds.

Josephine’s family and neighbours were left in shock and grief when news spread of the incident. The Guyana Fire Service reported that the wildfire broke out on an open farmland area near Parakies Main Road, amidst dense vegetation, leaving behind a scene of devastation with burn damage and ash residue.

On the fateful day, Josephine had left his home to work on his farm, a routine he had followed for years. However, tragedy struck when he sustained severe burns and was found lying motionless on his property. Despite efforts to save him, Josephine was pronounced dead at the Kumaka District Hospital.

Emergency responders and medical professionals did all they could to assist Josephine, but unfortunately, his injuries were too severe. A post-mortem examination is set to take place to determine the exact cause of death, as an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire is currently underway.

The Guyana Fire Service has been actively combatting wildfires and large grass fires in the area, with the dry season increasing the risk of such incidents. They urge the public to remain vigilant and monitor their lands for any signs of potential wildfires, as prevention is key to ensuring the safety of communities.

To mitigate the risk of wildfires, residents are advised to create defensible spaces around their properties by digging trenches and having evacuation plans in place. Additionally, outdoor burning of garbage or grass should be avoided during the dry season, as these fires can quickly spread and pose a danger to both life and property.
