Bridgeport, West Virginia: Two Arrested after Attempting to Scam Woman of $30,000
In a recent incident in Bridgeport, West Virginia, two individuals were apprehended by authorities for trying to swindle $30,000 from a woman in a fraudulent scheme posing as employees of Chase Bank.
The events unfolded when law enforcement responded to a report regarding a suspicious vehicle in the area. Upon arrival, officers observed a man, later identified as Xianjin Yang, hastily exiting his vehicle and attempting to flee from the scene.
After a brief pursuit, Yang was successfully apprehended by the police. Subsequent investigations revealed that he had conspired with another individual named Shaotong Chen in a deceitful ploy aimed at convincing a local woman that they were affiliated with Chase Bank and required her to remit a sum of $30,000.
The unsuspecting woman had complied with their instructions, presenting a cardboard box sealed with duct tape containing the specified amount. Authorities confirmed that she had been coerced into this action by the two perpetrators.
According to court records, the woman was coerced into believing that her computer was infected with a virus, and in order to safeguard her account, she needed to transfer $30,000 to the bank.
Both Xianjin Yang and Shaotong Chen are currently detained at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, with bonds set at $1,000,000 each.
The incident serves as a stark reminder to remain vigilant and cautious when dealing with financial transactions, especially when approached by individuals claiming to represent reputable institutions.
