Arrest Made in Gwinnett County, Georgia

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – An 18-year-old from Duluth was apprehended on March 8 following a dramatic chase involving a stolen vehicle and firearms in Gwinnett County.

The Gwinnett County Police Department reported that officers in the West Precinct detected a stolen vehicle with the assistance of Flock cameras on March 8 near Peachtree Parkway and Spalding Drive in Peachtree Corners.

Upon attempting to halt the vehicle, the driver accelerated and started executing evasive maneuvers.

Recognizing the presence of the Aviation Unit in the vicinity, the officers opted to withdraw and allow the Aviation Unit to monitor the car.

They trailed the stolen vehicle to the rear of a nearby school where three individuals disembarked from the car. The two passengers headed towards the front of the school and cooperated with law enforcement officers voluntarily.

The driver, identified as Shiheen Junnelle Russell, was apprehended in close proximity shortly after. Two firearms were seized, one of which was reported stolen at the time of the car theft.

All three individuals were detained by officers and subjected to questioning.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the two passengers were not implicated in the incident and were subsequently released.

Following an interrogation, Shiheen was taken into custody and incarcerated at the Gwinnett County Jail. Shiheen faces a litany of charges, including two counts of Kidnapping, four counts of Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, two counts of Possession of a Firearm or Knife During the Commission or Attempt of Certain Felonies, Theft of Lost or Mislaid Property, Carrying a Weapon within School Safety Zones, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police, Reckless Driving, and several other traffic-related offences.
