Yemen’s Houthi Movement Launches Missile Strike Against US Ship Pinocchio

Reports have emerged that Yemen’s Houthi movement launched a missile strike in the Red Sea against a vessel identified as the US ship Pinocchio. The group’s military spokesman, Yahya Sarea, made the announcement on Tuesday, claiming that the strike was precise and targeted.

Incident Details

The UK Maritime Trade Operations reported an incident involving the Liberian-flagged container vessel Pinocchio, which occurred 71 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah, a port under Houthi control. Fortunately, there were no casualties or damage to the ship reported in the aftermath of the attack.

Escalating Tensions

Since November, the Houthis have been increasingly targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. They claim these actions are in retaliation for Israeli strikes in Gaza. In response, the US and Britain have launched air and missile strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, starting in mid-January.

Intensification of Attacks

The Houthis have announced plans to intensify their attacks during Ramadan in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. This news comes as Houthi media outlets reported nine airstrikes by what they described as a US-British coalition in areas around Hodeidah port. These strikes were targeted at military positions held by the Houthis, according to local sources.

Despite international efforts to deter and degrade the group’s capabilities through military action, the Houthi forces have shown resilience and continue to escalate their attacks. The situation in Yemen remains tense, with both sides engaging in a dangerous game of tit-for-tat.

As the conflict in Yemen shows no signs of abating, the international community faces a challenging task in finding a peaceful resolution to the crisis. The safety of commercial shipping in the region is at stake, and swift action is needed to prevent further escalation and protect innocent lives.
