Early Morning Rollover Crash in Douglas County Sends One to Topeka Hospital

In the early hours of Monday morning, a single-vehicle rollover crash occurred in Douglas County, Kansas, leaving one person injured. The incident took place on Interstate 70 along the Kansas Turnpike near the K-10 highway exit on the west side of Lawrence.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze was travelling east on I-70 when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. As a result, the car veered off the road to the right, entering the south ditch. The vehicle then became airborne and rolled over.

One of the occupants, Manuel Rodriguez-Colonga, a 16-year-old from Salina, was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka for treatment of possible injuries. The driver, Kevin Sanchez-Colonga, also from Salina and 20 years old, was reported to have possible injuries, although there is no record of him being transported to the hospital.

Both individuals in the car were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices, especially when navigating curves and bends on the road. Authorities urge all motorists to remain attentive and cautious while behind the wheel to prevent such accidents from occurring.

As the investigation into the crash continues, officials are working to determine the exact cause of the incident and whether any factors such as speed or road conditions played a role in the rollover.

For now, the focus remains on the well-being of those involved and the hope for a swift recovery for Manuel Rodriguez-Colonga as he receives treatment at the Topeka hospital.
