Three Labourers Killed in Scaffolding Collapse at Mumbai High-Rise

Tragedy struck in Mumbai’s Borivali on Tuesday afternoon when a scaffolding collapsed at an under-construction high-rise building, claiming the lives of three labourers and injuring another. The incident took place at a ground-plus-24-storey building at Kalpana Chawla Chowk in Borivali West at 12.58 pm.

Details of the Incident

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the scaffolding on the 16th floor of the work site gave way, resulting in four people being injured. The victims were rushed to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, where unfortunately, three of them were pronounced dead upon arrival. The fourth victim, identified as Sushil Gupta, is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at the hospital.

The three deceased labourers have been identified as Manoranjan Samaj, aged 42; Shankar Baidya, aged 25; and Piyush Hardar, aged 38. This tragic incident has left a deep impact on the families and loved ones of the victims.

Response and Rescue Efforts

Following the collapse, the Mumbai Fire Brigade swiftly mobilized two fire engines to the scene to assist with rescue operations. The rescue mission was conducted under the supervision of the ward’s assistant divisional fire officer, highlighting the coordinated efforts of the emergency response teams in times of crisis.

Incidents like these serve as a stark reminder of the risks that construction workers face on a daily basis while working at heights. Safety measures and protocols must be strictly adhered to in order to prevent such tragic accidents from reoccurring.
