Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Two tragic incidents occurred on Sunday night in Cocorite and Laventille, resulting in the deaths of two young men. The victims were identified as 20-year-old Javannie Holder and 26-year-old Josiah Pierre.

Shooting in Cocorite

At around 8.12 p.m. on Waterhole Road in Cocorite, residents were startled by the sound of gunshots ringing out in the night. Shortly after, they discovered Holder lying motionless in a pool of blood near Building #3. The police and paramedics were immediately notified, and officers from the Western Division and the Homicide Bureau quickly responded to the scene.

Upon investigation, authorities found 18 spent rounds of 9mm ammunition, with seven of them bearing the distinctive marking “TTPS”, typically associated with ammunition issued to members of the Police Service.

Incident in Laventille

While authorities were still processing the scene in Cocorite, another tragic event unfolded in Laventille. Around 9.30 p.m., Pierre’s lifeless body was discovered in a track off Picton Street, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Two spent 9mm shells were found nearby.

A team of officers, led by Supt Nanan, swiftly arrived at the location to commence their investigation into this senseless act of violence.

Police Concerns

Senior police officers expressed deep concern over the discovery of spent shells with markings from national security apparatus at various crime scenes over the past 18 months. These markings, including those of the TTPS, TTR, and TTCG, are laser-engraved on shells to aid in identification.

Authorities are working diligently to determine if these seized shells can be linked to other firearm-related offences through ballistics testing at Cumuto. The TTPS has previously launched an investigation into how marked shells are finding their way into the hands of criminals.

Director of the Police Complaints Authority, David West, disclosed ongoing investigations into the discovery of spent shells at crime scenes, highlighting the seriousness of the issue.

These tragic events serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating crime and ensuring the safety of our communities. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.
