LAKELAND APARTMENT COMPLEX TRAGEDY: TWO DEAD, INCLUDING 3-YEAR-OLD

In a heartbreaking incident that shook the community, three individuals were shot at the Cambridge Cove Apartments in Lakeland, Florida on Monday night. The shootout between individuals in two cars resulted in the loss of two lives, including that of a 3-year-old child.

Details of the Incident

The violence unfolded at approximately 6:30 p.m. when a white Dodge Challenger blocked the path of a Toyota RAV4 at the apartment complex. Subsequently, two men from the Challenger emerged and began firing at the RAV4, unleashing a barrage of bullets.

Upon investigation, authorities recovered a total of 19 .223 caliber spent casings and nine 9mm spent casings at the scene, indicating the intensity of the gunfire exchange.

Eyewitness Account

Jacinto Montelongo, a resident of the complex, recounted hearing the gunshots ring out in the vicinity. Concerned for the safety of his own children, who were playing outside at the time, Montelongo swiftly took action to move them to a secure location.

As he ushered the children indoors, bullet holes pierced through his car, a stark reminder of the danger that had unfolded right outside his home. Montelongo then rushed to the vehicle where the shooting had transpired and encountered a harrowing sight.

He described finding a wounded child inside the vehicle, with a significant head injury that narrowly missed proving fatal. Tragically, the 3-year-old victim was later identified as Jaquez Norton, succumbing to the injuries sustained during the violent confrontation.

Victims and Investigation

One of the individuals involved in the shooting, Kemarius Wilson, aged 22, was caught in the crossfire and ultimately lost his life. Authorities revealed that Wilson was in the Challenger and was among the first to open fire during the altercation.

Another individual, Robert Enzing, aged 23, who was in the RAV4 at the time of the incident, sustained gunshot wounds but is expected to recover. Fortunately, the mother who was also in the RAV4 escaped unharmed.

Police Response

Police Chief Sam Taylor expressed the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the tragic loss of life, particularly that of a young child. The authorities are actively pursuing leads and searching for the second individual who was in the car with Wilson during the shootout.
