GREENVILLE, S.C. (WHNS/Gray News) – A recent incident at the SEC’s Women’s Basketball Championship in Greenville, South Carolina has left authorities dealing with a shocking turn of events. During the championship game at Bon Secours Wellness Arena, a fight broke out on the court between players from the University of South Carolina and Louisiana State University, causing chaos among spectators.

Chaos Erupts at the Arena

The Greenville Police Department reported that the altercation led to several spectators leaping over the wall and escalating the situation further. One fan, identified as 24-year-old Trayron Milton of Georgia, took things to a dangerous level by injuring an SEC employee in the process. Milton, who is the brother of LSU guard Flau’jae Johnson, was charged with assault and battery, third degree, and disorderly conduct.

Details of the Incident

According to police, as Milton attempted to jump over the barrier, the victim was seated at the scorer’s table near the court. In a reckless move, Milton pushed down on the victim’s head and stepped on her shoulders to make his way over the table. This shocking behaviour led to his arrest and charges being filed against him.

Game Disruptions and Consequences

The altercation began with just over two minutes remaining in the game when South Carolina forward Kamilla Cardoso shoved LSU guard Johnson after an intentional foul. The incident resulted in Cardoso being ejected from the game for fighting, along with three of her teammates who left the bench area. Two LSU players were also ejected, leaving both teams short-handed for the remainder of the game.

Celebration Amidst Controversy

Despite the disruptions, the South Carolina Gamecocks managed to secure their eighth championship in the past 10 years, celebrating their victory amidst the chaos that unfolded on the court. However, the repercussions of the incident were felt as Cardoso was ruled out of the team’s next game, in accordance with NCAA rules.
