The Fatal Tree Fall Incident

The quiet residential area of South Middleton Township was struck by tragedy on March 11 when a fatal tree fall incident occurred at a home located on 804 Baltimore Pike/US Route 94. The victim, Scott Quickel, lost his life in the unfortunate accident, which took place at 3:10 a.m. amidst heavy rains and strong winds that had weakened the soil, causing the tree to collapse onto the residence.

At the time of the incident, three occupants were inside the house. While two managed to escape unharmed, Quickel required extraction, leading to the involvement of Cumberland County Coroner Charles Hall. The Pennsylvania State Police and the county coroner’s office are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

Road Closures and Reopening

As a result of the fatal tree fall incident, US Route 94 experienced closures for several hours to allow emergency response teams to assess the situation and clear the roadway. However, by 7 a.m., PennDOT announced that the road had been reopened for normal traffic flow. The extent of the damage to the home, whether partial or total, remains unknown at this time.

In a community like South Middleton Township, where neighbours often know each other by name and lend a helping hand in times of need, the fatal tree fall incident has left residents in shock and mourning. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Scott Quickel during this difficult time.
