Ludhiana: A Dakha based couple died in a tragic road mishap on Sunday as a speeding truck hit their bike near Hambran and crushed them to death. The couple, identified as Pardeep Singh, 33, and his wife Mandeep Kaur, 30, were on their way to pay obeisance at a shrine in Nakodar when the accident took place. Pardeep was a bank employee while Mandeep was a private school teacher. They leave behind two children, a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl.

According to investigating officer ASI Gursewak Singh from Mullanpur Dakha police station, the couple left for the shrine from their house in the afternoon. A speeding truck coming from Sidhwan Bet side hit their bike and crushed them to death. The driver of the truck, identified as Surat Singh, was allegedly under the influence of liquor and was attempting to flee the scene. However, onlookers managed to apprehend him and hand him over to the police. The truck was seized and the driver’s medical examination is being conducted to determine if he was drunk.

An FIR has been lodged under sections 279, 304-A, and 427 of the IPC.
