Details of the Double Homicide Investigation in Greensboro

In a tragic turn of events, the Greensboro Police Department is currently investigating a double homicide that occurred after a Friday morning shooting at Culture Lounge on Spring Garden Street in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Response from Law Enforcement

At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Friday, the Greensboro Police Department, Guilford County EMS, and UNCG police responded to the scene at Culture Lounge, located at 1707 Spring Garden Street.

Upon arrival, officers and EMS personnel discovered multiple gunshot victims inside the establishment and immediately began administering aid.

Victims Identified

Tragically, two men, identified as 33-year-old Mohsin Malik Hamid and 28-year-old Devonte Bernard Johnson, were pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the shooting. A woman who had also been shot was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Investigation and Surrounding Area

Police remained at the scene for several hours, with Spring Garden Street blocked off near Warren Street, approximately half a mile from UNCG’s campus. Surrounding businesses were also cordoned off as investigators worked to gather evidence.

Authorities have revealed that around 100 individuals were present inside Culture Lounge at the time of the shooting, and a disturbance had occurred prior to the tragic incident.

Community Concerns

Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan expressed concern over the history of incidents at Culture Lounge, citing 89 calls made to 911 over the past three years for various violations and complaints.

Despite these challenges, Mayor Vaughan is committed to working with the North Carolina ABC Commission to address the issues surrounding the establishment and prevent future tragedies.
