BIRMINGHAM INCIDENT LEAVES ONE DEAD

In a tragic incident that occurred at approximately 8:57 a.m. on Sunday, East Precinct officers were dispatched to a person shot call in the 2300 block of 7th Way NW, Madison Park Apartments, according to Birmingham Police Sgt. Laquitta Wade.

When officers arrived on the scene at the Madison Park Apartments, they observed the victim lying on the sidewalk unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital.

The victim was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival by medical personnel.

PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION DETAILS

“The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim and suspect were involved in a confrontation inside an apartment,” Wade said. “The victim was struck by gunfire before exiting the apartment and collapsing on the sidewalk.”

There is a person of interest detained. The victim has not been identified at this time.

PREVIOUS INCIDENT

On Saturday, at 2:20 a.m., BPD officers responded to Princeton Hospital where a gunshot victim had been dropped off.

Lamar King, 41, of Birmingham, was identified as the shooting victim. No one is in custody at this time.
