Hanford Man Arrested After Fleeing From Police in Stolen Vehicle

A 29-year-old man was arrested in Hanford on Saturday after attempting to evade police in a stolen vehicle, according to the Hanford Police Department.

Incident Details

On March 9, 2024, Hanford Police officers received a tip about a possible stolen vehicle in the area of Douty St. and Fourth St. After conducting a search, they located the vehicle near 10th Ave. and Kruger Ave.

Upon trying to pull over the vehicle, driven by Jonah Fernandes, the 29-year-old suspect refused to stop for the officers and a pursuit ensued through the neighborhoods east of 10th Ave. near Florinda Street.

Crash and Arrest

During the chase, Fernandes lost control of the stolen vehicle at Beulah St. and Grangeville Blvd., hitting a curb and a tree, which led to the deflation of the rear tires. Despite the damage, he continued to drive erratically along Beulah St.

The pursuit came to an end when the stolen vehicle collided with a parked car, causing it to spin out and crash into a chain-link fence in the 1300 block of Beulah St. Fernandes then got out of the vehicle and was apprehended by the police.

Charges and Booking

After being taken into custody, Fernandes was booked at the Kings County Jail and charged with multiple offences, including evading a peace officer, possession of stolen property, hit and run, driving on a suspended license, possession of methamphetamine, and resisting arrest.

Overall, the incident serves as a reminder of the diligent work done by law enforcement in Hanford to apprehend suspects involved in criminal activities and maintain the safety of the community.
