Recent Fatal Crashes in Virginia

Over the weekend, three fatal crashes shook the communities of Virginia Beach, Hampton, and Brunswick County. Virginia State Police are currently investigating these tragic incidents that occurred between March 8-10.

Tragic Crash in Brunswick County

The first crash took place in Brunswick County on March 8. John Oliver Harrison, a 52-year-old driver, lost his life in a single-vehicle crash on Route 46. The preliminary investigation revealed that Harrison’s tractor-trailer veered off the roadway and collided with a group of trees. Despite the vehicle being fully loaded with lumber, Harrison tragically died on impact.

Virginia Beach Pedestrian Fatality

On March 9, a multi-vehicle crash in Virginia Beach resulted in the death of a pedestrian on I-264. The incident involved a 2012 Hyundai Tucson and a 2011 Toyota Avalon. A 23-year-old Hispanic/Guatemalan male lost his life after running across the traffic lanes and being struck by both vehicles. Fortunately, the drivers remained uninjured and cooperated with authorities at the scene.

Single-Vehicle Crash in Hampton

The final fatal crash occurred on March 10 on I-64 at Magruder Boulevard in Hampton. Antonette Mitchell, the driver of a 2011 Hyundai Elantra, tragically lost control of her vehicle, causing it to collide with the jersey wall. Mitchell was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Despite wearing her seatbelt, Mitchell’s injuries proved fatal. Alcohol and speed were ruled out as contributing factors to the crash.
