MURFREESBORO, Tenn. Man Faces Murder Charges After Fatal Shooting

Over the weekend, a tragic incident unfolded in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, resulting in the death of a young man. The Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) reported that the shooting took place at a residence in the 1100 block of East Vine Street on Saturday, March 9.

The victim, identified as 23-year-old Davion Gates, was found in the driveway with gunshot wounds to his chest when officers arrived at the scene around 9:30 a.m.

Swift Response and Tragic Outcome

Despite the quick response from law enforcement, who provided immediate first aid to Gates before the arrival of Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services, the young man succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

Arrest Made in Connection to the Shooting

Following the incident, a person of interest was taken into custody. On Monday, March 11, authorities announced the arrest of 44-year-old Corey Lillard Sr. in connection to the fatal shooting. Lillard Sr. has since been charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony possession of a schedule II drug (suspected fentanyl), drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a dwelling for drug use.

Legal Proceedings and Bond Set

Lillard Sr. is currently being held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a bond of $994,000. A hearing has been scheduled for June 3 in Rutherford County General Sessions Court.
