Man Dies in Lakewood Police Shooting

In a tragic incident in Lakewood, Colo., a suspect died in a shooting involving the local police department on Saturday morning. The incident took place at the La Quinta Inn located at 7190 W. Hampden Ave.

Police Respond to Shots Fired

The Lakewood Police Department received a call at 7:17 a.m. reporting shots fired on the fifth floor of the hotel. Upon arrival, officers found an armed suspect in the hallway. They instructed the suspect to drop the weapon, but he refused and moved towards the police.

Officers Open Fire

Three officers fired their weapons at the suspect and then provided aid, but unfortunately, the suspect succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Fortunately, no one else was harmed during the incident. The suspect, a 40-year-old man, has not been publicly identified as the authorities are working to inform his family.

Investigation Underway

The Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team is currently investigating the shooting. The three officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave, following standard procedure in such cases. As of Saturday evening, no further details have been released by the police department.
