Trichy: A tragic incident occurred in Perambalur on Saturday when a 60-year-old man, P Selvaraj, was fatally knocked down by a speeding private bus. The victim, a resident of Esanai village, was on his way home on a two-wheeler when the accident took place at the Annamangalam road junction. The bus driver, identified as R Selvakumar, lost control of the vehicle and also crashed into a house belonging to Senthilkumar, causing injuries to him.

The incident sparked outrage among the relatives of Selvaraj, who promptly blocked the Perambalur – Attur main road to protest against the speeding buses on the stretch. The road blockade resulted in a traffic jam, with vehicles, including buses, stuck for about an hour. After assurances from the Perambalur police regarding action against speeding vehicles, the protesters dispersed.
