Shots Fired in Troy, New York

A woman from Troy, New York, is currently in custody after being accused of attempted murder in a shocking incident that unfolded early Sunday morning. The Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety Telecommunicators received a distressing 911 call just after 7 a.m. reporting shots fired in the vicinity of Old 6th Avenue in Troy.

Police Response

Upon receiving the call, Troy Police Patrol Officers swiftly responded to the location and discovered evidence of gunshots being fired. However, the individuals involved had already fled the scene before the authorities arrived. Evidence Technicians and Detectives were called in to conduct a thorough investigation.

Identifying the Suspect

After investigating, it was determined that a male and a female, who were known to each other, had a dispute in the street. During the altercation, the female reportedly discharged several rounds from a handgun. Fortunately, the male managed to escape without being hit by the gunfire. With the help of community members, Detectives were able to swiftly identify the residence where the female suspect, identified as Krista M. Leverette, 34, had fled following the incident.

Arrest and Recovery

Patrol officers set up a perimeter around the residence while detectives, along with support and resources from the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center, obtained a court-ordered search warrant. The Troy Police Emergency Response Team, with assistance from the Colonie Police Department Special Services Team, executed the search warrant and successfully took Leverette into custody. Additionally, a handgun was recovered at the residence.

Legal Proceedings

Leverette is currently being held in Troy Police custody and is facing charges of attempted murder in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree. She is scheduled to appear for arraignment in Troy City Court on Monday morning.
