Authorities in Fairfax County, Virginia, are on the lookout for the driver of a stolen car who tragically struck and killed a 63-year-old man in a hit-and-run incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning. The incident took place in the Hybla Valley area of Fairfax County, leaving the local community in shock.
Stolen Vehicle and Hit-and-Run Crash
The incident unfolded when a black 2015 Hyundai Sonata was reported stolen from the 7900 block of Sausalito Place on Saturday night, prompting a search by Fairfax County police. The stolen car was later spotted by law enforcement officers on Buckman Road near Russell Road just after 12:15 a.m. The driver of the stolen vehicle, upon noticing the police presence, quickly sped away, evading the pursuing officers.
Approximately 15 minutes later, the stolen car was observed speeding on Janna Lee Avenue towards a dead end. In a reckless attempt to escape, the Hyundai sideswiped another vehicle with a person inside near Tamarind Street before crashing into a dumpster. The driver of the stolen car abandoned the vehicle at the crash site and fled the scene, leaving chaos and devastation in their wake.
Tragic Loss of Life
As a result of the hit-and-run incident, a pedestrian identified as James Johnson, a 63-year-old resident of Hybla Valley, was found injured in the grass near the crash site. He was swiftly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention, but sadly succumbed to his injuries. The entire community mourns the loss of a beloved member and sends thoughts and prayers to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
