FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. – A tragic incident unfolded in Fairfax County, Virginia, where a 63-year-old man lost his life in a hit-and-run involving a stolen vehicle.

The Location of the Incident

The heart-wrenching event took place in the 7900 block of Sausalito Place in the Hybla Valley area. Officers responded to the scene at 12:17 a.m. on Sunday following a report of a pedestrian crash.

The Stolen Vehicle

During the investigation, an officer spotted a stolen black 2015 Hyundai Sonata on Buckman Road near Russell Road. The driver of the stolen vehicle immediately fled upon seeing the police presence, and officers wisely chose not to pursue the vehicle.

The Collision

Approximately 15 minutes later, law enforcement observed the stolen vehicle speeding recklessly on Janna Lee Avenue towards a dead end. Following the driver, officers discovered the stolen vehicle had crashed into a dumpster.

The Victim

Tragically, the driver had abandoned the vehicle, and a pedestrian, later identified as 63-year-old James Johnson of Hybla Valley, was found injured in the grass nearby. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Johnson succumbed to his injuries.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities conducted a thorough search of the area but were unable to locate the driver responsible for the hit-and-run. Detectives suspect that the driver of the stolen vehicle not only struck Johnson but also sideswiped a car on Janna Lee Avenue and another vehicle near Tamarind Street before crashing into a dumpster.
