Woman Arrested for Allegedly Murdering Mentally-Challenged Brother in Andheri

In a shocking incident that has left the residents of Andheri in disbelief, a 62-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly murdering her 57-year-old mentally-challenged brother. The incident took place in the bustling area of Manish Nagar, Andheri (West), where the siblings resided in a fifth-floor flat.

Preliminary Probe Reveals Frustration as Motive

The accused woman, identified as Amarjeet Ahluwalia, reportedly confessed to the police that she was fed up with the responsibility of taking care of her brother, Surender Ahluwalia. Surender, who had been mentally retarded since childhood, required constant care and attention.

According to the police, on a fateful Friday evening, Amarjeet attacked her brother with a knife and strangled him to death with her dupatta. Neighbours who heard the commotion alerted the authorities, leading to the discovery of Surender’s lifeless body in the flat.

Struggle of a Sole Caretaker

Amarjeet, who never married and had no other family, had been shouldering the responsibility of caring for her brother after their parents passed away. The sub-inspector of the DN Nagar police station revealed that Surender’s erratic behavior and constant need for attention had taken a toll on Amarjeet, eventually pushing her to take drastic action.

The police recovered the knife and dupatta used in the crime from the scene and conducted a postmortem at Cooper Hospital. Amarjeet was arrested under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code based on a complaint filed by the siblings’ elder brother, Angadsingh Ahluwalia.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Authorities have secured custody of Amarjeet and are delving deeper into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. The DN Nagar police station is working diligently to gather all necessary evidence and statements to ensure justice is served in this case.

As the community in Andheri grapples with the shocking turn of events, the arrest of Amarjeet Ahluwalia serves as a sobering reminder of the complexities of caregiving and the importance of seeking help when overwhelmed.
