High-Speed Chase on I-93 Leads to Arrest of Massachusetts Driver

On a busy Friday morning, state police were conducting a traffic enforcement detail on Interstate 93 when they witnessed a Massachusetts driver pushing the limits of speed. Reginald Carter, a 48-year-old resident of Lawrence, Massachusetts, was caught going northbound at staggering speeds of up to 128 miles per hour.

The incident took place on I-93, a major highway that runs through the New England region, connecting Massachusetts to New Hampshire. State police were monitoring northbound traffic from an aircraft, keeping a close eye on drivers exhibiting reckless behavior.

Swift Action by Troopers

Trooper Thomas Lombardi, part of the special enforcement unit, spotted Carter’s vehicle traveling at an alarming rate of speed, weaving in and out of lanes and passing other vehicles with little regard for safety. Lombardi immediately radioed down to troopers on the ground, alerting them to the dangerous driver.

Trooper First Class Scott Garton sprang into action, pulling over Carter and placing him under arrest for reckless driving. Carter now faces charges and is scheduled to appear in 10th Circuit Court in Salem on April 18.

Crackdown on Speeding

In a statement, state police revealed that the enforcement effort on I-93 was prompted by a significant increase in speeding and hazardous driving behavior in the area. During Friday morning’s operation, troopers stopped a total of 56 drivers for various motor vehicle violations.

Seven drivers were caught exceeding 100 mph, with an additional 21 drivers clocked at speeds over 90 mph. Citations were also issued for offenses such as following too closely, using a mobile phone while driving, negligent driving, and violating the move-over law.

Continued Vigilance

The special enforcement unit, equipped with state police aircraft, will continue to conduct similar initiatives across the state to crack down on dangerous driving practices. By utilizing aerial surveillance and ground patrols, law enforcement aims to keep highways safe for all motorists.
