Tragedy struck in Lawrence County, southern Indiana, on Friday morning as a two-vehicle crash claimed the lives of two individuals and left two others with serious injuries. The incident occurred on State Road 37 near Gun Club Road in Mitchell at 10 a.m., prompting a swift response from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office Deputies.

Details of the Crash

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu carrying three passengers was travelling southbound on State Road 37. At the same time, a 2006 Dodge Ram truck was heading northbound on the road. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 32-year-old Jordon Williams, attempted to pass an uninvolved vehicle by veering to the left side of the roadway at a high speed.

Tragically, the Chevrolet collided with the Dodge truck, driven by 21-year-old Braighton Ames of Paoli. The impact of the crash caused the Dodge truck to become airborne off the right side of the roadway, ultimately overturning. The Chevrolet, on the other hand, sustained significant damage and came to a stop in the middle of the road.

Loss of Life

As a result of the crash, Jordon Williams and a passenger in the Chevrolet, 73-year-old Gunther Oberth of Orleans, were pronounced dead at the scene. The third occupant of the Chevrolet, 28-year-old Tanaea Harkness, was airlifted to a hospital in Louisville for treatment of her injuries.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the exact cause of the tragic incident.
