Manhunt Ends with Arrest in Robbery and Fatal Stabbing Case

On a fateful Saturday, a robbery and fatal stabbing incident occurred on State Line Road, sending shockwaves through the community. The victim, Seth R. Langford, tragically lost his life at the hands of the perpetrators involved in the heinous crime.

Vehicle Pursuit Leads to Arrest

After days of intensive investigation and a manhunt, Cherokee County, Kansas deputies and Joplin police were finally able to track down one of the suspects associated with the robbery and slaying. The pursuit of the suspect’s vehicle came to a dramatic end as the suspect abandoned the vehicle near West Seventh Street and Malang Road, fleeing on foot.

Search and Capture

Jasper County deputies swiftly responded to the scene, setting up a perimeter around the area where the suspect had fled. After an extensive search, Paul D. Phillips Jr., 36, of Seneca, was located at a nearby residence and taken into custody. The arrest of Phillips marked a significant breakthrough in the case, bringing some closure to the community reeling from the tragic events.

Person of Interest

Phillips, along with another suspect, Scott B. Burleson, 30, of Wyandotte, Oklahoma, had been identified as persons of interest in the robbery and fatal stabbing. While Phillips was apprehended, Burleson remains at large, posing a continued threat to the safety of the community.

Burleson has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Langford’s death, as well as facing charges of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. As for Phillips, he has been charged with a range of offenses, including first-degree robbery, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and vehicle tampering.
