The Tragic Attack in Laki Marwat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

Two police constables met a tragic end in Laki Marwat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Thursday, as they were gunned down in what appears to be another act of terrorism in the region. The incident took place in Lakki Marwat’s Darra Pizu Bazaar, where two traffic sergeants were targeted by unidentified assailants on motorcycles in broad daylight.

Details of the Incident

The police constables, identified as Constable Hafizullah and Head Constable Zaram Khan, were on duty managing traffic in the marketplace when they were mercilessly attacked. Despite the efforts of local residents to rush them to the hospital, Constable Hafizullah succumbed to his injuries on the way, while Head Constable Zaram Khan breathed his last at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ).

Response from Authorities

Following the heinous crime, a large contingent of police quickly responded to the scene and initiated a thorough door-to-door search operation. The spokesperson of Lakki Marwat Police, Shahid Hameed, confirmed the identities of the fallen officers and their respective villages of origin, shedding light on the personal loss suffered by their families and communities.

Security Situation in the Region

Lakki Marwat has been grappling with a resurgence of militancy in recent times, particularly after the Taliban’s ascension to power in neighbouring Afghanistan. The release of TTP operatives by the new regime has provided a window of opportunity for terrorist outfits to regroup and carry out their nefarious activities with impunity.

Arrests in Malakand

Meanwhile, in a separate development in Malakand, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) succeeded in apprehending two suspects, Liaqat Ali and Mujeebullah, in connection with the fatal attack on Inspector Wakil Khan. The incident, which occurred on February 17, claimed the lives of Inspector Wakil, his friend Naseeb Khan, and left his children injured.

The swift action taken by CTD led to the recovery of crucial evidence, including the assailants’ motorcycle and weapons, paving the way for further investigations into the case.

The incidents underscore the persistent security challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in the region and the need for concerted efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of citizens.
