Waco Police made a significant discovery during a routine traffic stop near the Baylor area, uncovering almost a pound of marijuana as two men attempted to flee the scene.

The Traffic Stop

At 10:35 p.m. on Thursday, officers initiated a traffic stop in the vicinity of Jack Kultgen Freeway and South 4th Street. As the vehicle came to a halt, two individuals bolted from the car, leaving behind a backpack. The swift actions of the suspects immediately caught the attention of law enforcement.

The Chase

Despite their attempts to evade capture, the suspects were unable to outrun the police. The backpack left behind contained a substantial 13 ounces of marijuana, leading to an intensified pursuit. One of the fleeing individuals, later identified as Devonte Treveon Perkins, was spotted on University Parks Drive. Perkins initially defied orders to halt, but eventually complied after a brief chase.

The Arrest

Perkins, a 31-year-old, was promptly taken into custody and booked into the McLennan County Jail. He now faces charges of possession of marijuana exceeding four ounces but under five pounds, as well as evading arrest. As the investigation continues, Perkins remains behind bars awaiting the setting of his bond.
