Tragedy struck the Toronto community earlier this week as news emerged that two teenagers were struck and killed by a train. One of the victims has been identified as a student from the Toronto Catholic District School Board.

Identified Victim

The teenager was a student at Bishop Marrocco-Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School, located at Bloor Street West and Dundas Street West. The principal of the school, Laila Velocci, expressed deep sadness in a letter sent to the school community.

Velocci emphasized the importance of well-being for students, staff, and families, offering support and counselling services to help cope with the loss. The school community was encouraged to come together in prayer for those affected by the tragic incident.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred late Monday when a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were struck by a train in Toronto. Toronto police have not yet provided details on why the teenagers were on the tracks at the time of the incident.

During a press conference, Toronto police Insp. Keri Fernandes revealed that the train was travelling westbound to Toronto Pearson International Airport from Union Station when the teenagers were hit near Eglinton Avenue and Weston Road. Unfortunately, both teenagers succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Community Support

Principal Velocci assured that mental health professionals and counselling services will be available to the school community for as long as needed. The Bishop Marrocco-Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School extended their deepest sympathies and condolences to all those affected by the tragedy.
