The Sentinel-Record

A Hot Springs man, Terrance Allen Welsh, 61, was arrested on a felony battery charge following an alleged altercation with his 64-year-old wife at their residence on Copper Mountain Loop late Tuesday night.

Details of the Incident

According to reports, the incident took place shortly after 10:30 p.m. when Garland County sheriff’s Deputy Colleen Smith was called to the residence for a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, Smith found Welsh standing in the driveway and inquired about the other party involved, who was identified as Welsh’s wife still inside the house.

Smith spoke to Welsh, who claimed his wife had hit him in the face with her hands. However, as Smith probed further, Welsh’s story appeared inconsistent, and he showed no visible signs of injury. Meanwhile, Welsh’s wife was visibly distressed, with redness and swelling on her face and lips, indicating that she had been struck multiple times by Welsh.

Legal Ramifications

Due to the victim’s age and the physical evidence of the assault, Welsh was taken into custody on a second-degree domestic battery charge, which carries a maximum sentence of up to six years in prison. Welsh, with no prior criminal record, was held on zero bond and was scheduled to appear in Garland County District Court the following day.

The wife, although refusing medical treatment, suffered physical pain from the alleged assault, prompting authorities to take swift action against Welsh. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing domestic violence and ensuring the safety of individuals in vulnerable situations.

As the case unfolds, the community awaits further updates on the legal proceedings and the implications for Welsh and his wife. It is crucial to raise awareness about domestic violence issues and provide support for victims in similar situations.
