Agra District in Uttar Pradesh: Three Band Members Electrocuted in Wedding Procession
In a tragic incident in Agra district, Uttar Pradesh, three members of a music band were electrocuted and one suffered burn injuries during a wedding procession. The incident occurred on Wednesday night when their vehicle came in contact with a low-lying, high-voltage power transmission line.
The victims were part of a music band hired by Athar Singh of Salehnagar village for his daughter’s wedding. As the vehicle carrying the band members entered the village from the main Khairagarh road, it accidentally touched an 11 KW power transmission line that was lying low. This contact resulted in all the occupants of the vehicle receiving electric shocks.
Police Statement on the Incident
According to the police, three of the band members, identified as Santosh Kumar (29), Padam Singh (45), and Achal Singh (52), succumbed to their injuries within minutes of the accident. Another member, Sachin (20), was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and is currently fighting for his life. Agra Superintendent of Police Sonam Kumar confirmed that the bodies of the deceased will be handed over to their families after the post-mortem examination on Thursday.
This tragic incident is not the first of its kind in the region. A similar accident took place in Meerut’s Rali Chauhan village on July 15, 2023, where eight Lord Shiva devotees were electrocuted when their 21-foot-high Kanwar yatra vehicle came in contact with a power transmission line. Approximately 12 others sustained burn injuries in that incident.
Authorities Investigating Safety Measures
Following these unfortunate events, authorities are looking into the safety measures surrounding power transmission lines in villages and areas where such incidents have occurred. It is crucial to ensure that proper precautions are taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
