Tragic Stabbing Incident in Ottawa Leaves Family Dead

Ottawa police chief Eric Stubbs revealed that a horrific tragedy unfolded in the Barrhaven area, where a suspect identified as Febrio De-Zoysa used an “edged weapon” or “knife-like object” to commit a senseless act of violence. The suspect has been charged with six counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

Mr. Stubbs disclosed that the victims are Sri Lankan nationals who had recently immigrated to Canada. The victims include a 35-year-old mother, her seven-year-old son, and daughters aged four, two, and two-and-a-half months, as well as a 40-year-old acquaintance of the family.

When the police arrived at the home, the father was outside, screaming for someone to call 911. The father sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is currently hospitalized. This devastating incident has left the community in shock and disbelief.

The Sri Lankan high commission in Ottawa has been in touch with relatives in Colombo to provide support and assistance during this difficult time. The accused, Febrio De-Zoysa, is expected to appear in court later today.

Neighbours, like Don Perera and Shanti Ramesh, expressed their shock at the tragic events that unfolded in their quiet neighbourhood. The swift action of the police led to the arrest of the suspect, ensuring there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
