GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – A suspect is facing four charges in connection to a domestic shooting and kidnapping situation in Gaston County from Wednesday morning.
The suspect has been identified as 51-year-old David Pace. He has been charged with murder, kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a felon, and assault by pointing a firearm.
Erica Fay Welch, 32, was identified as the victim in this case.

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A hostage situation turned deadly in Gaston County, according to authorities. The Gaston County Police Department says the standoff happened just before 3am on March 6th on Chrisco Lane in South Gastonia.
When officers were called to the domestic incident, police say someone fired shots from inside the residence at officers.
The Gaston County Police Emergency Response Team and additional resources were called to the scene.
Officers initially rescued one person from the home, who told them there was one person being held hostage as well as one person with a possible gunshot wound, according to a news release.
The Emergency Response Team immediately conducted an emergency rescue operation where they successfully rescued the other individual, discovered one person dead, and arrested the suspect.
