An Inland Empire rideshare driver was arrested in Costa Mesa after fatally striking a woman with his vehicle at the intersection of Newport Boulevard and Harbor Boulevard before fleeing the scene, authorities reported.

Details of the Incident

The tragic incident took place on Sunday, March 3, shortly after 12:25 a.m. when officers responded to a call at the intersection. Upon arrival, they found a woman on Newport Boulevard with a life-threatening head injury. Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue attempted to save her life while transporting her to the nearest trauma hospital.

Unfortunately, the woman, a Costa Mesa resident whose identity has not been disclosed pending notification of next-of-kin, succumbed to her injuries and passed away on Wednesday. The Costa Mesa Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team determined that the suspect driver, identified as 43-year-old Thomas Loranze Henry from Ontario, was working as a rideshare driver in the area at the time of the incident.

Arrest and Charges

Following the investigation, Henry was arrested on Wednesday and booked on charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run. The authorities are continuing to gather more information about the case.
