A young man has admitted to his involvement in a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man in Brockton at the Super 8 Motel in 2020. Dvante Bly-Mollenthiel, 25, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and firearm charges for his role in the murder of Christopher Lascase. He has been sentenced to 12-15 years in state prison, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz.

The Incident

The incident took place on Oct. 23, 2020, at the Super 8 Motel located at 385 Westgate Drive in Brockton. Brockton police responded to reports of a shooting and found Lascase with a gunshot wound in one of the motel’s second-floor rooms. He was rushed to Good Samaritan Medical Center, where he succumbed to a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Bly-Mollenthiel, then 22, was arrested two days after the shooting. During his arraignment, a police officer identified him as the gunman after reviewing surveillance footage from the scene. Witnesses also pointed to him as the shooter after reviewing a photo array of potential suspects. He pleaded not guilty and was held without bail.

Defense attorney Joseph Krowski with his client DíVante Bly-Mollenthiel, 22, of Brockton, was arraigned in Brockton District Court, charged with  murder in connection with the fatal shooting that took place on Friday in a second floor room at the Super 8 Motel on Westgate Drive, police said.  The shooting on Friday night took the life of Christopher Lascase, 20, of Brockton.

Second Suspect

Another suspect, Valdir Rodrigues, 39, of Weymouth, was arrested for being present during the shooting. Rodrigues allegedly accompanied Bly-Mollenthiel to buy drugs from Lascase. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Rodrigues’ case is still pending, and he is scheduled for a court appearance on March 7 for a status hearing.
