Fire Engine Crashes at Entrance to Northeast Columbia Neighborhood

A dramatic scene unfolded in northeast Columbia on Wednesday morning as a fire engine crashed at the entrance to a neighborhood. The incident took place at the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and Summerhill Drive, where the Richland County Sheriff’s Department responded to the crash at 9:22 a.m.

Video footage shared on social media captured the aftermath of the crash, showing the fire engine colliding with a pole and destroying an ornamental brick sign at the entrance of the neighborhood. The heavy rain that had been sweeping through the Midlands since Tuesday night added to the chaos, with debris washing into the road.

The individual filming the scene expressed concern, stating, “Y’all are going to have to fix this, because our neighborhood is nice.” The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash, with Master Trooper William Bennett confirming that no injuries or involvement of other vehicles were reported. The crash was described as “engine vs. pole.”
