Tragic Incident in Stewartville, Minnesota

A Stewartville woman, Shannon Brown, has recently pleaded guilty to an amended charge of second-degree manslaughter following a fatal overdose that took place in October 2023. The incident occurred at a residence near Pleasant Grove, Stewartville, which is a peaceful town nestled in the rolling hills of southeastern Minnesota.

On the morning of October 21, 2023, authorities from the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) responded to reports of a deceased person at the residence. The victim, identified as Michael Janvrin, 45, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke to Shannon Brown, who had called 911. Brown recounted being with Janvrin at the residence in the early hours of the morning when he suddenly collapsed. Shockingly, she failed to seek immediate medical assistance and left the scene, only returning later in the morning with her two children to contact the authorities.

Following an autopsy conducted by the Southeast Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, it was determined that the cause of Janvrin’s untimely death was the toxic effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Shannon Brown is set to be sentenced on May 29, with both the prosecution and defense agreeing to a 48-month guideline sentence for her guilty plea. However, the final decision rests with the judge presiding over the case.

Stewartville, with its close-knit community and picturesque surroundings, has been left reeling by this tragic turn of events. The residents are coming together to support one another during this difficult time.
