Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities in San Diego have identified two men who tragically lost their lives in a shootout at a Grantville apartment complex last Friday night. The complex, located near San Diego State University, is a popular housing option for students in the area. The victims, Joseph Taylor, 31, and Lavion Estridge, 24, were fatally shot during what police believe to be a gang-related incident.

The Victims: Joseph Taylor and Lavion Estridge

Joseph Taylor, a San Diego resident, was not a resident of the Union Grantville complex where the shooting took place. Lavion Estridge, on the other hand, worked as a security guard at the complex, which opened its doors last August. The complex, situated on Alvarado Canyon Road near a trolley stop, is home to approximately 600 residents, most of whom are San Diego State University students.

The Shootout

The shooting occurred near the pool area inside the complex, where a group of individuals were involved in an altercation. According to police, at least three people brandished firearms and began shooting shortly before 9 p.m. on Friday. Responding officers found Taylor and Estridge in a stairwell, both of whom succumbed to their injuries at local hospitals.

Suspect Arrested: Charles Patrick Burke

Following an intensive investigation, police were able to locate and apprehend a suspect in connection with the shooting. Charles Patrick Burke, 31, was arrested at a Rancho Bernardo gas station without incident. He is currently held without bail on suspicion of murder and other charges. Burke is scheduled to appear in San Diego Superior Court for arraignment on Thursday.
