Azad Nagar, a densely populated slum settlement near the Golden Nest circle, was the site of the tragic incident that claimed the life of one individual and left several others injured.

Tragic Loss and Injuries

Deepak Chourasia, also known as Pappu, lost his life to severe burn injuries sustained during the fire. Additionally, five people, including two children and three fire personnel, were injured while attempting to combat the blaze and rescue those trapped in the flames.

Demolition Operations Begin

The MBMC’s anti-encroachment squad, under the leadership of Narendra Chavhan, wasted no time in initiating the demolition of illegally constructed structures in Azad Nagar. With the assistance of JCB machines and manual labour, the team commenced the task of razing buildings and clearing out the debris left by the fire.

Over 40 residential and commercial structures, built without proper authorization on land earmarked for social forestry reservation, were targeted for demolition. In addition to these structures, the area is home to numerous scrap godowns that operate illegally and are suspected of storing hazardous materials.

The demolition efforts are being carried out with the utmost care and precision to ensure the safety of both the workers and the surrounding community. The MBMC is taking proactive steps to prevent similar incidents in the future and maintain the integrity of the area.

By addressing the issue of illegal structures and enforcing regulations, the MBMC is working towards creating a safer and more sustainable environment for the residents of Azad Nagar and the surrounding areas.
