Philadelphia has been shaken by a series of tragic events involving SEPTA buses in recent days. SEPTA Transit Police and Philadelphia police are set to address the public in a news conference following the multiple fatal shootings.

Monday’s Shooting

On Monday afternoon, a devastating incident unfolded near Godfrey and Ogontz Avenues. Five individuals were shot, with one tragically losing their life. The senseless act occurred as two individuals opened fire on a crowd that was preparing to board a SEPTA bus.

Among the victims was 17-year-old Dayemen Taylor, a student at Imhotep Institute Charter High School. Dayemen lost his life in the shooting, while two of his classmates sustained injuries. Additionally, a 71-year-old woman was hit in the forehead by a bullet but is expected to recover.

Tuesday’s Tragedy

The following night brought another heart-wrenching incident, this time aboard a Route 79 bus in South Philadelphia. Carmelo Drayton, a 37-year-old resident of the Southwark section, was fatally shot on the bus as it approached the intersection of Broad Street and Snyder Avenue.

Authorities were alerted to the shooting around 6:40 p.m. SEPTA reported that the perpetrator fled the scene and sought refuge in Snyder Station on the Broad Street Line.

Weekend Violence

Prior to these recent events, a man lost his life in the Oxford Circle neighborhood following an altercation on a SEPTA bus. The dispute escalated, leading to a fatal shooting once the victim disembarked the bus late on a Sunday evening.

These incidents have left Philadelphia residents and commuters on edge, with concerns over safety and security in SEPTA facilities.
