Arrest Made in Lawrenceville Road Rage Shooting
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – A dramatic incident of road rage turned violent in Gwinnett County, Georgia, where a suspected shooter was apprehended in a swift and daring arrest captured on dash cam video.
The Lawrenceville Police Department recently released footage of the arrest, which unfolded on the afternoon of February 26. Reports flooded in to emergency services around 4 p.m., alerting authorities to gunfire along GA-316 near Duluth Highway. Witnesses described a harrowing scene where an SUV travelling eastbound fired multiple shots at another vehicle.
Fortunately, the occupants of the targeted vehicle managed to evade the bullets, but sustained injuries from shattered glass as the windows were shattered. Bullet holes were discovered in the headrests of both the driver and passenger seats, highlighting the severity of the incident.
Identification and Capture of the Suspect
Following the alarming event, a description of the suspect’s SUV was disseminated to law enforcement agencies. Within a day, officers successfully located the vehicle and swiftly moved in to make an arrest. The dash cam footage released by the Lawrenceville Police Department captured the intense moments as officers cornered the SUV and apprehended the driver, identified as 41-year-old Charles Ray Montgomery from Dacula.
Upon searching the vehicle, investigators discovered a cache of firearms, prompting further analysis to determine if these weapons were used in the road rage shooting. Montgomery now faces charges of two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a felony, and felony possession of a controlled substance.
Legal Proceedings and Detention
As the investigation progresses, Montgomery remains incarcerated at the Gwinnett County Adult Detention Center without the option for bond.
