Philadelphia Bus Shooting Leaves Seven Injured

A shooting incident involving a Philadelphia city bus has left seven bystanders injured, marking the fourth gunfire incident on the transit system in recent days. The latest shooting occurred in the afternoon in a northeastern neighborhood, according to John Golden, a spokesperson for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA).

Details of the Incident

The injured individuals were people on the street, who were later taken to Einstein Medical Center and Jefferson Torresdale Hospital for treatment. While the bus was hit by gunfire, there were no reports of injuries to passengers or the driver of the bus.

Police spokesperson Officer Tanya Little stated that numerous 911 calls were received just before 3 p.m., and upon arrival, police found seven people with gunshot wounds.

Schools Nearby

Monique Braxton, deputy chief of communications for the Philadelphia school district, mentioned that the shooting took place near Northeast High School and Crossan Elementary. However, it is unclear whether any students from these schools were among the victims.

During the incident, Crossan Elementary was dismissing students but had to pull them back inside and initiate a lockdown. The school was later given the all-clear by the police.

Recent Incidents on SEPTA Buses

This shooting comes just a day after another passenger on a SEPTA bus was shot, making it the third shooting incident in three days on the transit system. The previous shooting resulted in the death of a 37-year-old man identified as Carmelo Drayton.

No arrests have been made in any of the recent shootings, as investigations continue to determine motives and locate suspects.

Increased Security Measures

SEPTA’s chief of transit police, Charles Lawson, emphasized the need for increased security measures to address the rising incidents of violence on the transportation system. He stated that officials would aggressively enforce laws against illegal gun possession and other criminal activities.

Lawson also highlighted the importance of increasing surveillance through cameras and encouraging employees and riders to report any potential problems discreetly to enhance safety measures.

With a commitment to combatting crime and ensuring the safety of passengers and employees, SEPTA is taking proactive steps to address the recent incidents and prevent future occurrences.
