About the Discovery
In a recent development, human remains discovered in Fremont County in February have been positively identified as a woman who had been reported missing from El Paso County since August of 2022. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) revealed that the remains were found on the morning of Feb. 24, 2024, on the side of Highway 115 in Fremont County. This discovery prompted a joint investigation by EPSO and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), in collaboration with the Fremont County Coroner.
Identification of the Victim
The remains have been identified as those of Beth Aper, who went missing after last being seen exiting a car driven by her husband on Judge Orr Road and North Calhan Highway in eastern El Paso County on Aug. 12, 2022. Aper reportedly walked away from the vehicle in the dark, carrying two trash bags of clothes and her cell phone.

Beth Aper was described as a family-oriented individual who cherished her family and never missed important occasions such as holidays, birthdays, or family gatherings. She was known to post frequently on social media, with her last post dating back to Aug. 12, 2022.
